Maybe you've heard of Quicksilver, Macintosh's quintessential application launcher, which has inspired many programmers to create similar applications for Windows.
One of them is Key Launch, which, with its interesting interface, introduces a way to run applications very similar to Quicksilver's method.
To use it, just write the name of the program that you want to launch and Key Launch will show you its name and icon. Then you can run it.
Even if another program appears, you can always select it from further down on the list, or finish writing its full name.
